No. 1 Wolverines lose to No. 3 Hoosiers

The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines sparred off with No. 3 Indiana Hoosiers Saturday night in a game which was highly anticipated and implications of the top ranked team in college basketball on the line. For the Wolverines, holding on to that top spot for a full week proved difficult as it has for so many. From the start the pace was exceptionally fast as Indian didn’t miss a shot in the first five minutes which gave the Hoosiers an early lead of 26 to 11.

By halftime the Wolverines managed to close that gap 36 to 32, but the Hoosiers just played really tough throughout. Indiana kept a comfortable lead as the game went back and forth. By the 1:30 mark, IU was up again by nine at 71 to 62 and essentially never looked back handing Michigan their second loss of the season. I’m sure GRIII wish he could get the game back as he was exceptionally quiet with two points but Burke and Hardaway Jr contributed 25 and 18 apiece. Indiana’s defense stayed in the man to man giving the Wolverines a hard time to find any rhythm and causing fits down low. At the end, it was Hoosiers 81, Wolverines 73.

Michigan will wish they could run this one back and they’ll have their chance on March 10th, in the meantime the only thing that is certain that a new number one will be announced on Monday. Michigan may have unfortunately caught a black eye on this one but they’ll bounce back come March Madness.

Wisconsin Badgers – Takes Down No. 2 Indiana

Wisconsin Badgers spanks the Hoosiers for the fifth time in a row at home. Tuesday night in Assembly Hall, temperature 33, partly cloudy, wind factor blowing around 9 SSW, the pesky Wisconsin Badgers came away with a win and beat the number two ranked team in the nation – the Indiana Hoosiers. Come tomorrow, Hoosiers will have more than likely dropped out of the Top 10 and may fall outside of the best fifteen.

The Badgers meanwhile are not currently ranked and don’t posses any real star power but in traditional Wisconsin fashion relied on a team-ball concept based on ball movement, getting guys open shots and solid defensive play. Again nothing spectacular, nothing overly impressive, just the basics. Ryan Evans and Traevon Jackson scored 13 and 11 points respectively while Mike Bruesewitz added 10.

However what was impressive was the ability to go out on the road and beat a highly ranked team in an arena that is supposed to be difficult to win. By the end of the evening, it was Badgers 64, Hoosiers 59 as well as Wisconsin grabbing the top spot of the Big 10 with an overall record of 13-4 but 4-0 in the conference.

Meanwhile Cody Zoeller finished with 23 points, 18 of which came in the first half while Christian Watford had 11 and Victor Oladipo with 10. It’s hard to say that Indiana came out flat or wasn’t up for the game, the Badgers have just owned them at home. One must wonder who is Indiana really and when will they start becoming a more aggressive team? Only time will tell if things can ever heat up in Assembly Hall.
