NEW YORK, USA – US college basketball stars who were denied the chance to play for a national crown in “March Madness” due to the coronavirus pandemic will not be given an extra opportunity.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 council voted Monday, March 30, to grant extra eligibility only for spring sport athletes whose seasons had barely started.

Rodent Punk, Sinful Rock, Sweet Psyche

It’s been too long since I’ve enjoyed a solid Las Vegas-centric punk-rock compilation. The last one was 2007’s Merry X-Mas Dammit From the Double Down Saloon, 16 tracks of reindeer-slaying tunes. (The Vermin’s “Santa Was a Cross-Dressing Nazi” is a classic Christmas carol at my house.) Since then, there have been a few digital-only comps done for charity. But SquidHat Records’ just-released Desert Rats With Baseball Bats is the best, most professional sampler in years.

SquidHat is throwing a party in honor of the CD at 10 p.m. October 11-12 at Double Down Saloon. Many of the bands on the 21 tracks on Desert Rats will perform—Battle Born, Burning Agrestic, the Dirty Panties, Geezus Cryst & Free Beer, The People’s Whiskey, the Quitters, the Seriouslys, S.F.T. and Surrounded by Thieves. Admission is free and you can purchase the compilation there. My favorite cut on the sampler is the throat-punching “As the City Sleeps” by skatecore group Aluminum Falcon (who won’t be at Double Down).

9-year-old sneaks onto plane, heads to Vegas

October 8, 2013 By admin

How in the world did this happen?

A nine-year-old boy somehow manages to get past security at Minneapolis/St.Paul International Airport and board a Delta flight to Las Vegas.

He actually got on the flight without a ticket, without a boarding past, found an empty seat and tried his luck.

It’s a mystery how this kid slipped through the cracks….

According to a local TV station in Minneapolis-St. Paul, the boy is believed to be a runaway from the Twin Cities area and this apparently wasn’t his first misadventure at the airport.

The boy even took someone else’s luggage off the carousel, ordered food at a restaurant inside the airport, asked the server to watch “his luggage” while he went to the bathroom and never came back.

‘Cake Boss’ star Buddy Valastro opens Buddy V’s Ristorante at Palazzo

A chance meeting three years ago between “Cake Boss” superstar Buddy Valastro and Venetian and Palazzo owner and mogul Sheldon Adelson has led to an unlikely and unique partnership. Sheldon’s son wanted a bar-mitzvah cake created by Buddy, who he watched on his TLC shows.

It was about the same time that Buddy flew to Las Vegas to film “Cake Boss” at the hotel. Perfect timing? A meant-to-be coincidence? Buddy thinks it was destiny because they sat for an hour and told each other a similar rags-to-riches story.

Sheldon, who delivered newspapers as a kid, and Buddy, who took over his father’s bakery as a teen when the patriarch died suddenly. Both had the same self-starter attributes and built successful businesses.

“We had similar stories and hit it off,” Buddy said. “I told him that my dream was to one day have a restaurant in Las Vegas. The stars all lined up, and I couldn’t have better partners.”

The rest is history. Buddy teamed up with Las Vegas restaurant consultant Elizabeth Blau and her husband chef Kim Canteenwalla, and Sheldon agreed to invest and assist with space at his Palazzo. The new restaurant, Buddy V’s Ristornte, his first, opened Monday in the space formerly occupied by First Food & Bar.
