4 Ways to Call in Sick for MARCHVEGAS; if necessary

First posted last year (February 28, 2013) but options will still work for MARCHVEGAS 2014 (March 20-23).

MARCHVEGAS is such a new holiday you’ll find that a few stubborn souls out there still don’t want to play ball. Simply put, maybe your company or boss just doesn’t “Believe in a 4-day Holiday™ just yet. Well, have no fear, he/she will. However, in only our second year if word of the new 4-day holiday hasn’t reached all of middle and upper management, then this article is for you in providing a solution to your problem.

Also, this solution is not a list of “catch all” or “best ways” but instead “our ways”, of calling in sick when its absolutely necessary to get those extra days off from the daily grind. 4 Ways to Call in sick for MARCHVEGAS; if necessary.

1. The 44-Day Theory

Don’t call in sick for at least 6 weeks and two days prior to MARCHVEGAS, then make the call. It’s been so long since you’ve been out sick from the office you won’t even have to use any funny voices, fake coughs or needing to drop your voice down an octave. This is gonna fly like your first paper plane as a kid, its not gonna be pretty, but it’ll work.

Author’s Note: Maybe “The 44-Day Theory” notice one should have gone out a little earlier but with 21 days left till MARCHVEGAS, just think of it as doubling down and you’ll be alright.

2. Alka-Seltzer Four-Step

First take two Alka-Seltzer Night Time cold tablets the night before and when you wake up, you’ll be groggier than a drunken sailor. Your voice is gonna sound like you not only have the flu but maybe a touch of tuberculosis with biblical leprosy. Then at that exact moment my friend is when you pick up the telephone and dial it home – works like a charm every time. And why is it called the “Alka-Seltzer Four Step”, you may ask? Just think about it, 1. Plop, 2. Plop, 3. Fizz 4. Fizz…you know the rest.

Lastly, if you don’t have Alka-Seltzer and would rather just get hammered like a drunken sailor, then take care of business professionally with maybe only 4 drinks the night before then leave that early morning voice mail and you should be fine.

3. The Setup

On Wednesday, March 20th, start sneezing and coughing and dragging one foot around the office while complaining about your “head-cold” or achy stomach. Put that out there for about half a day and then call in sick early on Thursday March 21st and leave that message about your new found illness. By afternoon, you’ll be on the road or in an airport somewhere headed towards your vacation location.

4. The George Clooney

Walk up to your boss and say, “I’m not coming in tomorrow or Friday”. Then quickly jump into the elevator, turn around, and look directly in the camera as the doors shut. The boss won’t know what hit em and by the time you’re gone, there’s no response. Home free and then just say, “Viva MARCHVEGAS”!
